What are these strange signs on London Underground?

Labyrinth art project

You may have seen these strange signs on London Underground and wondered about their purpose etc.
When I saw one such sign very first time I thought it looked like a tube map for aliens...
But in reality these signs are Labyrinth art project by Mark Wallinger to mark 150th anniversary of the London Underground.
